You ARE Different and
Here’s Why!
For
every entrepreneur, your ideal client or team
member
is a version of YOU. This is one of the
key
points in my coaching system; I share this with
each
client. You do not attract random people; you
attract
people who have something (typically, many things)
in common with you.
Naturally, this principle applies to me too. I see
certain personality traits and key experiences show
up in my clients, and in me also.
Here’s what I know about you,
as a member of the Expand Your Mind, Expand Your
Money
community.
1. You have a big WHY. You are in
your specific business, working with your ideal
clients,
because you have a passionate purpose to
bring
into the world through your business.
You’re
not simply making a living; you’re helping
your
ideal clients live a better life. For example, you
help them live a healthier life so they have more
options on what to do; you help them find their
inner
beauty and express it on their outside.
2. You’re emotionally wired to be
an entrepreneur. You want to have control
over your schedule, over your income, and over the
speed with which you move up in your company or
field.
You enjoy deciding what to do when. Either you
don’t
enjoy being told what to do OR you simply want
something
bigger than your corporate job can provide.
3. As an entrepreneur, given your desire
to determine your schedule, income and advancement,
you view your career choice as
“natural”.
It provides you with all these options and
you get to be in the driver’s seat. On the
other
hand, many people in your life view your career
choice
as “risky”, because no one else is
guaranteeing
your paycheck.
4. You’re ambitious. You are
not content with the status quo. You want MORE.
More
success, greater impact on people’s lives,
more
income, and ultimately, more peace in your life.
You
want to be at a point where you have financial
security
AND fun money; you can provide your partner with
more
options for them to work or not; you’ve taken
care of your kids’ future; and you’re
running your business in a way that is sustainable,
so it doesn’t overwhelm you.
5. You’re BUSY. You have many
roles to play: being a great wife/partner, being a
mom, running the house, taking care of pets, and
more!
In your business, you work IN your business with
your
clients; you work ON your business with your team,
marketing, sales, buying office supplies ;
and you work to grow yourself through personal
development
6. You’re highly independent in your
work and usually work alone. You’re
used to getting it done on your own. Perhaps you
didn’t
get support as a child and became highly
independent
early on, or perhaps you’re saving money now
and doing it all yourself.
HOW IT ALL ADDS UP
First,
you’re in the right spot!
You’re
in the right spot in your choice to be an
entrepreneur.
You’re a good fit in my community. We speak
the same language.
Second, you’ve got some built-in challenges
that are the flip-side of the qualities listed
above.
Challenge 1: Because you
view being an entrepreneur as a “natural
choice”,
while family or friends or colleagues see it as
“risky”,
you don’t always feel understood by
the people in your life.
Challenge 2: Because you
want MORE and you’re BUSY, you
struggle
with balance. It’s easy for you to
over-schedule
yourself. When that happens, the first
thing
to go is your self-care. You take care of others
before
yourself. You want to help others AND spend more
time
on your business AND spend more time with your
family
AND you want to get a mani-pedi too! Where do all
your priorities fit in?
Challenge 3: Given your self-reliance
and independence, you have a hard time
asking
for support. You may have a hard time simply
recognizing
when you need support. You also have a hard
time
receiving support. For example, you
may feel compelled to jump in and help the person
you’ve hired, instead of teaching them how to
support you.
Call to Action
Look
back at the challenges above. Which ones, if any,
sound like you? And we ALL have
challenges.
When you have a strength, like self-reliance, and
you push it too far, it becomes a weakness. When
you’re
used to thinking of your particular qualities, like
self-reliance, as a strength, you may not realize
the point at which they become a detriment to your
growth.
Can you get a second opinion from someone you trust,
who knows you well, who will give you the straight
scoop? Other people see our blind spots more easily
than we do. Just make sure the person you’re
asking for insights from is someone who meets
all
three qualities listed above.
Once you’ve identified your challenges
(often they are your strengths gone too far), what
can you put in place to help you move into greater
balance? To move to a place where your
good
qualities ARE strengths and where you find more
balance?
Why spend time on this? Because
it’s the best and fastest way to grow
yourself,
which in turn grows your business! In my last ezine
“What
Makes a Leader”, I shared the 3 levels of
leadership from James Scouller. They are
public:
your influence on many people,
private:
your influence one-to-one, and
personal:
your self-mastery of various skills).
Growth
in the personal area builds all 3 areas!
“What
we perceive as a failure may simply be our
inner being's way of telling us that we are ready
to move
to a new level of growth.”
— Anne Wilson Schaef

Here's how I helped my client Leah, who started
in a state of ambivalence and ended up as the top
seller in her company.
"Before I started working with Marcy,
I was in a state of ambivalence and not confident
in my own decision making. I was stuck and not
moving
forward in many areas of my life. As a mom and an
entrepreneur, I was really confused about how to
achieve what I wanted. I was attracted to Marcy
because she really listened and gave me exactly
what I needed to hear. She always says the right
thing at the right time. She is so in tune with
my goals and knows my personality so well, that
the solutions she has given me as well as new
insights
that have launched me forward are like going to
a master tailor and having the perfect suit made.
Because of our sessions together, I have
rediscovered
my passion and purpose and I have had some
life-changing
shifts that have had a very positive impact on
and
gave me back my enthusiasm and drive.
As a result of our work together, I now feel
more confident and I love what I do. I was just
honored as tops in sales with my company and a
year
ago that would not have happened. I'm in a new
place
in my life, no longer indecisive and fearful, but
committed and confident. Thank you,
Marcy!"
