I’m leading my Expand Your Mind Expand Your Money group coaching program for the 6th time and as always,*I* am still learning from this!  We’ve had some great discussions on relationship-based selling, which I define as you speaking directly with one person.

I have come to see over and over again that mastery of relationship-based selling rests on you shaping the conversation to what your Ideal Client (or Team Member) wants to experience, not to what YOU find valuable or interesting.

That’s the focus of today’s article.  Entrepreneurs who focus the selling conversation on the features of their product/service/offer or on their expertise are NOT highly successful entrepreneurs.  Highly successful entrepreneurs keep their prospect in the limelight and focus the spotlight on the prospect: their feelings, dreams and goals.

Moving Your Sales to A New Level

Ever find yourself in this situation?  You LOVE your product/service or direct selling company so much that you want to shout it from the rooftops!  You constantly run into people who need what you offer and you’re eager to talk about this product/service/opportunity.

But no one seems to care.

This is a trap that can sap your self-confidence and keep you under-earning. 

The problem is that you want to broadcast the features.  In contrast, highly successful entrepreneurs do not broadcast; they listenThey ask questions about their Ideal Client (or Team Member): what do they want to do/be/have or feel? 

What your Ideal Client and Team Member REALLY wants is the result of the result.  For example, your Ideal Client doesn’t really want lipstick – they want to feel beautiful!  Why do they want to feel beautiful?  Because it gives them self-confidence and makes them more attractive. 

So feeling beautiful is the direct result of buying that lipstick, and beauty giving them self-confidence is the result of the result.

Your Ideal Team Member doesn’t simply want to join your company.  They want to have more flexibility with their schedule and that flexibility lets them spend more time with their kids, which makes them feel like a good mom.  Feeling like a good mom is the true result they want.  That is their heartfelt desire.

CALL TO ACTION

If you want to move your sales from blah to great and move your recruiting from depressing to exciting, then I invite you to:

Take time to ask questions of your prospect.  It takes time and questions to identify what they want to do, be or have.  Only then can you help them connect the dots between their heartfelt desire and your offer.

Minimize discussing the features of your product/service/offer.  That will work better AFTER you’ve thoroughly explored their heartfelt desires.

Minimize discussing your expertise.  Again, that will be more effective AFTER you’ve learned what they want to experience.

Practice lengthening the time you spend in each conversation with a prospect.  That’s the only way you’ll learn how it takes for YOUR Ideal Client or Team Member to feel comfortable sharing their inner goals and dreams.
