COMPARISON ENERGY – every human being has compared themselves to someone else, at one time or another.

The negative side of comparing yourself to others comes from: 1) judging yourself as “less than” someone else: less than successful, less than good-looking, less than charismatic, whatever.  And 2) after you realize you’re feeling envious, judging yourself as a bad person!

There IS a positive side to comparison.  Here are 3 quick tips to help you get the valuable information from comparisons.

  1. When you get focused on Suzy’s charisma, money, or thighs, that’s great information from your inner self about what you really want in YOUR life.  Ultimately the comparison is not about Suzy and her life, it’s about YOU.
  2. Whatever you’re checking out in Suzy, you have the potential for that quality in yourself ALREADY.  You are not attracted to random qualities or abilities you could never have.  Instead, you’re attracted to qualities that are within you – they just may not have blossomed yet.
  3. YOUR unique way of exhibiting that quality is going to be different from the way it shows up in Suzy.  So you don’t need to worry about becoming IDENTICAL to Suzy – you can’t be identical anyway!  All you need to do is cultivate that aspect within yourself and let it come to the forefront.

wizardofozMy favorite coaching movie is The Wizard of Oz.  It’s full of so many points that apply to my clients (and therefore to me too J ).  This movie is full of characters who are desperate to get something: brains, a heart, courage that they already have!

So whenever you find yourself comparing yourself to someone else, I want you to think of the Tin Man, or the Scarecrow, or the Cowardly Lion.  Everything they wanted was already inside them from the start, and so it is with you.
